Year 2025 in rearview

After 2025 ends with the most ridiculous press conf with Trump and Zelensky it is hard to be optimistic about the coming year.

The year 2025 could have been very successful for the world and for the US. People were very anxious about the accession of Donald Trump to presidential power in the US. They were justifiably worried about an authoritarian turn. I was not that worried -- counting on the institutions of the US republic to hold against abuse of executive power. I was wrong -- I did not appreciate the destructive power of stupidity of Trump and his supporters.

It is the bombastic stupidity of the Donald that has destroyed many opportunities of 2025.

Why start a trade war with the entire world by imposing tariffs on friendly partner countries while the problem country is China? Disturbing a system of delicate dependencies on foreign trade is not only imprudent, but stupid.

The bombastic renaming of geographical entities and long-standing institutions -- Gulf of America, Department of War, Trump-Kennedy Center!

Serving Russia's interests in Ukraine, while Russia is clearly the aggressor country, while shamelessly advocating for peace. But what is peace without justice? Trump is forcing Ukraine into submission to Russia and multiplying the danger of Russian aggression against Europe. Trump thinks that business deals with corrupt and belligerent Russia are a better way to go than achieving a just peace in Ukraine and security in Europe. The opportunity to defeat Russia in Ukraine and allow Russia to reform internally is plainly squandered.

US is revealing itself as an unreliable ally -- to Ukraine, which received US and European security guarantees in 1994, and to NATO allies -- by siding with Russia in the matter of war in Ukraine.
European NATO allies are hesitant making a tougher stand against Russian aggression while the core NATO ally is siding with the enemy. US is placing a big question mark about the system of alliances securing our world in relative peace! There is a danger Europe might go its own way about its security and US will be left alone, without allies.

And American internal politics! The left wing wokeness is not dead! Quite the contrary. It now developed new ventures into pro-Palestinian anti-Semitism and pro-Islamism. If DEI is a bit passé there will be new trends in multi-culti thanks to the likes of Mamdani or Ilhan Omar entrenched in the left-wing of the Democratic party. The right-wing developed its own brand of wokeness. American nationalism and the "Heritage American" are now its answer and mirror to the left-wing Person-Of-Color (POC).

War against drug trafficking has reached a new dimension -- a criminal dimension. The drug boats and crews are not terrorists -- they are workers delivering illegal merchandise -- and as such subject to arrest -- not execution.

And the ICE raids all over the country are revealing the utter incompetence of the government tripping up on its own procedures -- either applying them or bypassing.

Why do we have an idiot president? Because the smart and honest people (like Charlie Kirk) are not speaking the truth. While the idiots are shouting lies from the rooftops.

Maybe the only good thing Trump has done this year is starting the new White House Ballroom. What to look forward to in 2026? Shift of power away from Trump may open new possibilities.
